Non-sewage water
Non-sewage water refers to all water that does not belong in the sewer system. A significant portion of the total flow through sewer systems to wastewater treatment plants consists of non-sewage water. This type of water increases the emissions from the wastewater chain to receiving surface waters and leads to higher energy consumption within the chain. Groundwater infiltration into the sewer system can cause road damage and foundation issues. Quantifying and locating sources of non-sewage water is detective work for experienced sewer specialists with (local) system knowledge.

We identify the sources of non-sewage water by combining various available data, such as water usage and measurements of water quantity and quality. We provide advice on when it is worthwhile to detect non-sewage water and address its infiltration.
